Learn words in sentences, not lists
Why a sentence is a better unit of study than a single word.
A word alone has no grammar and no friends. A sentence shows which prepositions follow it, which words sit next to it and what tone it has.
I ask my students to bring three sentences a week, taken from something they actually read or heard. We talk about why the word fits there. It takes ten minutes and works better than any list.
