Make or do? Common collocations
Both verbs mean something like perform, but they keep different company.
Use make for
Make a decision, make a mistake, make progress, make a phone call, make an effort, make money, make a plan.
Use do for
Do homework, do the dishes, do your best, do business, do research, do a favour, do exercise.
There is rarely a rule here. These pairs simply sound natural, and the best method is to meet them often in reading and to write them down in groups.
